  • Kushi Bankstown

    Kushi Bankstown

We originally went to Little Saigon Plaza in Bankstown to try another restaurant. However, we couldn’t resist the temptation to try Kushi Charcoal Skewer Buffet, or we’ll call it Kushi Bankstown in this post.

It’s even crazier to see the price at $19 for the lunch buffet!

    z0 Kushi Menu

The main attraction for Kushi Bankstown is obviously its skewers. They have three different types of skewers: normal, seasoned and spicy.

There are not a lot of different types of meat, but they just called it beef, lamb, and chicken. They also have skewers of pumpkins, garlic and other veggies.

    z2 Yakitori - Kushi z3 Kushi Skewers

If you can’t wait for the skewers to cook, you can have a selection of kimchi, fried chicken, pancakes, or jap chae from the hot food section.

z1 Hotfood z5 Jap Chae and Tteokbokki z7 Chicken and kimchi

They also serve a hot soup area with a selection of noodles and skewers of fish balls and fish cakes.

    z6 Fish cakes

However, the highlight of the day is obviously the wait for these skewers to cook to your liking.

The good thing is you don’t even need to constantly turn it! The machine does everything for us!

  • Ellenborough Market Cafe

    Ellenborough Market Cafe

    Ellenborough Market Cafe Review:

When I went to Singapore last month, we went to a buffet restaurant called Ellenborough Market Cafe in Swissotel Merchant Court. The dining area was nicely decorated with a little pool of water in the middle. We also could see a couple of chefs hand-rolling our dumplings. It was a very nice first impression to the restaurant.

Before I start talking about the food, I just want to say that the review below did not include every available menu on offer at the restaurant. There were just too many of them!

    Bain-Marie

The list was quite extensive in the bain-marie section as it tries to cater to almost every demographics in Singapore. The ones in the slide below are: lobster (however it looked more of a Balmain bug in Sydney), otak-otak ( a traditional dish from the region), and babi pongteh (slow braised pork).

    Seafood

The seafood options were very extensive. It is probably even more than some Japanese restaurants in Sydney. You can find 2 different sashimi, 4 sushi, baby octopus, seaweed. There are also cold seafood dishes like prawn, crab, mussels and escargot. In addition to the fresh seafood area, they also provided hot and cooked versions.

    Others

There is a dish that I’m not familiar about but sit at a very prominent location. The dish is called Kueh Pie Tee. It was more of a DIY station than a complete set. They also have the roast meat section, cheese and salad.

    Desserts

One of the most amazing things about this restaurant is the availability of (not just one, but) two durian dishes! I always thought you could not bring durian into the hotel. But then again, the durian in the restaurant wasn’t exuding that lovely (or horrible, depending on whether you are team durian or not) smell.

One was more on a creamy side and the other, deep fried!

If durian is not your thing, they also have a whole display full of desserts.

z30 Seafood from Ellenborough Market Cafe, Singapore

The Final Verdict for Ellenborough Market Cafe:

All you can eat lobster and durian? and did you also see that sashimi and fresh snails? I’m sure you know what my verdict is.

Do you think I should go?

When you are ever in Singapore and are in needs of a buffet, Ellenborough Market Cafe will be a good fit for you!

  • Ginza Japanese Yakiniku

    Ginza Japanese Yakiniku

    Ginza Japanese Yakiniku Review:

This week we were excited to try one of the newer Japanese Yakiniku restaurants in one of the newer buildings in Sydney: Ginza Japanese Yakiniku at the Emerald Square in Burwood. Everything in the area looked and smelled new. Parking can be quite troublesome in the weekend, but fortunately, we came in quite early.

    z20 Ginza Japanese Yakiniku Burwood

Ginza Japanese Yakiniku has 2 set menu to choose from: the standard menu at $56.8 and the premium menu that would cost you $68.8. The main differences between the two menus are ox tongue, mixed tempura, oyster, scallop, and one more dessert. We decided that the premium menu didn’t really add that much more value… and went with the standard menu.

    Ginza Japanese Yakiniku

Being in a yakiniku, the first question you might want to ask is: how many types of meat do they have?

The answer is 4 for standard and 6 (plus ox tongue) for the premium set. The good thing about Ginza was that they cut the meat to a bite size. That means you can cook it faster and you can enjoy it sooner!

    Sashimi and Sushi

Despite only have two kinds of sashimi, the standard menu had a few other sushi to choose from, including our favourite: seared salmon nigiri. It is also pleasing to see that they use different plates for different order sizes.

    Seafood

Outside the sushi and sashimi dishes, the standard menu only has a handful other seafood dishes. Whereas the premium menu has scallops, fishes and prawns that you can order.

    Side dish

They have a whole bunch of side dishes available for both standard and premium menu.

    Desserts

They have two ice cream flavours: taro and vanilla. Ginza Japanese Yakiniku is probably the only Japanese restaurant that serves taro but not green tea ice cream.

The final verdict for Ginza Japanese Yakiniku

We feel that Ginza Japanese Yakiniku is sitting on the more expensive side for a bbq restaurant in Burwood. Their standard set has quite a lot of vegetables. The premium set wasn’t too different and the selection didn’t really wow us.

Do you think I should go?
Ginza Japanese Yakiniku is still a pretty restaurant that is probably perfect if you want to impress someone. However, you could get similar quality dishes for cheaper price around the area.

  • Kobe Wagyu BBQ

    Kobe Wagyu BBQ

    Kobe Wagyu BBQ Review:

This week’s review is from one of the newest all-you-can-eat restaurants in Sydney. Kobe Wagyu BBQ is located quite near to World Square in CBD. Being at the centre of the city, unfortunately, also means a very expensive BBQ restaurant. The buffet menu is $79 per person.

They back up their pricing with amazing BBQ burner where the smoke actually got sucked back down. This actually creates a non-smokey environment with no giant overhead exhausts in sight. They also use touch screen ordering system where you can just click your orders. They did impose limitations on the number of plates you can order in one serving.

Japanese BBQ place usually has only two different soy sauces. Kobe Wagyu BBQ has three: yakiniku, ponzu and soy.

BBQ – Brisket Navel End (Karubi), Outside Skirt (Harami), Chuck Eye Roll, Flap Meat, Oyster Blade, Rib Eye Cap, Rib Finger, Short Rib, Tri-tip, Beef Tongue
Chicken Soft Bone, Chicken Thigh, Pork Loin, Pork Neck, Pork Belly, Pork Sausage

The first part of the menu (and probably the most often you will visit) is the BBQ. They have quite a few different cuts of meat, as seen above. They also have an extra option to either marinade it in sauce or salt.

Seafood – Baby Octopus, Calamari, King Prawn, Callops, Garlic Chilli Prawn, Scallop with Roe

If grilled seafood is your thing, you might be looking to order from one of these options. Unfortunately, fish is not part of it. But you can technically use the sashimi cuts and just grilled them.

Sashimi and Sushi – Salmon, Tuna, Snapper, Kingfish, Scallop, Salmon Carpaccio, California Roll, Lobster Salad Roll, Salmon Avocado roll, asparagus hand roll, eel hand roll, wagyu beef hand roll, tobiko hand roll, salmon hand roll

As a group, this is the place where we went the most. We love all you can eat sashimi! We could order plates upon plates of Sashimi.

Vegetables, Salad, and Side Dish – Asparagus, cabbage, capsicum, onions, shiitake mushrooms, corn with butter, sweet potato, zucchini, pumpkin, button mushroom, king brown mushroom, crab salad, sashimi salad, potato salad, seaweed salad, wrap lettuce, Japanese radish pickles, kimchee, radish kimchi, onsen tamago, asparagus with sesame sauce, spinach with soy, tofu

On the contrary, I hardly go to the vegetables and salad area. It’s not worth my time in all you can eat BBQ.

Bites – Crab claw, prawn croquette, chawanmushi, mentaiko cuttlefish, pork dumpling, vege spring roll, sesame oil & salt, garlic slice, agedashi tofu, bite-size tempura prawn, burdock chips, takoyaki, chicken karaage, yukke, curry croquette, shrimp karaage, chicken wing dumpling, deep fry lotus root, deep fry chicken soft bone, edamame

Bites are a good starting point if you want something to eat while waiting for your meat to cook. I love eating yukke (raw beef with egg yolk) and chicken soft bone to start my dinner.

Soup, Rice and Noodles – rice, eel rice, rice ball, salmon flake rice, soba, hot udon, green tea soba, egg soup, miso soup, seaweed soup, vongole miso soup

This is the tummy stuffer. People usually leave this out when eating at an all-you-can-eat restaurant. You can get full really quickly if you eat too much of this.

    z5 Kobe Wagyu BBQ Restaurant

Desserts – black sesame, green tea, mango ice cream, rice cake

There are not a lot of options in the desserts area. It is basically just three kinds of ice cream and a rice cake. The rice cake is pretty interesting as you need to grill them before you can enjoy them with the condensed milk. A little tip: please change the grill before you start grilling the rice cake.

    Optional Extras

You have to be careful that not everything is included as part of the buffet. Some items in the touch screen menu have a price tag attached to it. You will need to fork out extra dollars for those items.

The final verdict for Kobe Wagyu BBQ

Kobe Wagyu BBQ is one of the pricier all-you-can-eat restaurants in Sydney. The big plus is the almost-smoke-free environment. They also have quite a number of meat cuts and seafood.

Do you think I should go?
If all-you-can-eat and sashimi are your things, definitely!

  • Lone Star Rib House – Top Ryde

Lone Star Rib House – Top Ryde

Lone Star Rib House – Top Ryde Review:

We were walking around in Top Ryde Shopping Centre when I saw a signboard with my biggest weakness written on it: All-you-can-eat. That’s when we decided we should give Lone Star Rib House a try.

Upon arrival, you were given a bucket of free peanuts. Not a bad start, we thought.

Big Spring Beer Battered Onion Ring Tower – $16.95 – Feed the whole dang posse with a Tall Tower of Onion Rings

The onion ring tower was quite massive. They were also super crunchy with very nice sauce.

Unfortunately, it also turned out to be the best dish of the day.

All You Can Eat Ribs & Wings – $29.95

With the all you can eat ribs&wings, you are required to finish everything that they gave you before you move on to the next plate. It’s quite challenging as the ribs also came with wings and chips.

The wings have quite a few different sauces that you can try: BBQ, Sweet Chilli, Satay, Coriander Ginger & Lime, Hot, “Hot Ass” sauce. Despite the sauce, they were super dry. The chips were also chunky and a bit much. I guess it’s much cheaper to serve a bucket of chips than risking people ordering the second plate.

z1a All You Can Eat Ribs from Lone Star Rib House

Little Kids’ Beef Ribs – $8.95 – with chips and all you can eat ice cream.

Interestingly, our little one could not eat the beef ribs as it was super dry and hard. It was very different than our ones.

Brownie Blast – $12.50 – Homemade Brownie Fudge Sundae, Crowned with Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream, Hot Chocolate Fudge, Whipped Cream and a Maraschino Cherry

The brownie was pretty decent. However, the rest was just stock standard.

Long Island Ice Tea – $12.95 – Tequila, Rum, Gin, Vodka, Triple Sec, Lemon Juice, Topped with Cola

I reckon this has got to be the cheapest long island ice tea I have ever seen. Either way, you get what you paid for.

The final verdict for Lone Star Rib House – Top Ryde

I guess Lone Star would be worth it if you could finish at least two plates of all-you-can-eat ribs, wings, and chips. However, given it’s a fixed set menu, I think most people would be reluctant to order a second serving.

Do you think I should go?
If you can eat a whole bunch of ribs, wings and chips… then yes. However, quality-wise, there are a lot of better rib houses out there.

  • 5 All-You-Can-Eat in Sydney That You Must Try

5 All-You-Can-Eat in Sydney That You Must Try

Restaurants, all-you-can-eat in Sydney, and I are like two peas in a pod. I have enjoyed eating in all-you-can-eat restaurants for as long as I can remember.  We are inseparable!

I have tried quite a lot of all-you-can-eat restaurants in Sydney for the last decade and I have seen some come and go. However, there are a handful restaurants that I have frequented throughout the years.  Here they are (in alphabetical order)…

5 all-you-can-eat in Sydney that you must try

    Braza

When I think about Braza, I can imagine their great meat quality. They also have the perfect way to rotate your meat options (you will less likely encounter the same cuts unless you specifically ask for it). The Braza in Darling Harbour also has Brazilian dancers on the weekend.

    Braza on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brazadh/

    Churrasco

Churrasco is my first ever foray into the Brazilian all-you-can-eat scene. I have been going to this restaurant since they only had one restaurant in Coogee. They started off as pure meat all-you-can-eat with vegetables as an optional extra. However, they have added the vegetables as part of the package since then.

We usually ask for buckets of the chimichurri sauce and tomato salsa as they go really well with the meat.

    Website: http://www.churrasco.com.au/

    Feast

Feast at Sheraton on The Park is like the high-end version of all-you-can-eat. It is located in a prime real estate in Sydney, facing Hyde Park!

Feast is known for their massive range of cold seafood. When you arrive at the restaurant, you will be greeted by assortments of crabs, oysters, and prawns. Their desserts range is also second to none.

    Website: http://www.feastsydney.com.au/

    Suminoya

Suminoya used to be the undisputed favourite of ours. However, in the last 8 years, the price has gone up 150% and they took away the charcoal and replaced it with electric BBQ.

They still have the best options for all-you-can-eat. You can have wagyu beef, sashimi and other assortments of Japanese food. They are also the most technologically-advanced with touch screen ordering system… not having to explain what you need and just have food delivered to you is a very nice perk to have!

    Website: https://www.facebook.com/SUMINOYA.BBQ/

    Wagyu House

In terms of quality, wagyu house will not be able to compete against the other four. However, this Korean BBQ restaurant costs less than half of most restaurants on this list. It doesn’t have many seafood options but it has a massive range of Korean side dishes.

    Wagyu House on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ilovewagyuhouse/
